Werde Volunteer in Rio 2016!

Liebe Ruderfreunde,

The volunteer registration period runs from 28 August until 15 November. To apply, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to www.rio2016.com
  2. Click on the Volunteer Programme banner, or on the tab "Participate".
  3. Create your account
  4. Complete all steps of the application form
  5. Submit your application

A few more important points to keep in mind:

  1. The Olympic Games rowing event takes place from 6 to 14 August 2016, and the venue will open for training on 24 July. The Paralympic Games rowing event takes place from 9 to 12 September 2016 and the venue will open for training on 31 August. We need volunteers for the competition periods as well as the training or preparation periods and you will be asked to indicate your availability for all of them.
  2. The "test event" for rowing is the 2015 World Rowing Junior Championships, which will take place from 5 to 9 August 2015. As for the Games, we will have a preparation period before competition with some volunteers needed from 28 July onwards. We would like our rowing volunteers to participate in the test event in 2015 as this will provide invaluable training for the Games in 2016.
  3. The rowing venue is located in the Copacabana zone - when asked in which zone you would prefer to work, select "Copacabana".
  4. To be a volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old on 28 February 2016. You also need to have access to the internet, as a lot of the training will be done online.
  5. You will not be able to specify which volunteer role you would like to fulfill, but you will have the opportunity to list your special skills, qualification or experience e.g. language skills, holding a licence to drive a motorboat, good computer skills. Your skills might make you a good candidate for certain volunteer roles.

Once you have submitted your application, you will be contacted by Rio 2016 for a short online evaluation and more information about the selection process.
